An AIDS Mistake

Robert Strand

At 18, Kay Browne (name changed) was ready for the world! This bubbly honor student was looking forward to an army career. Last March, she signed up at a recruiting office in Houston and took a mandatory AIDS test. One week later she learned she was HIV-positive and the world was no long a sure thing! She said, "I was really, really, angry! My career had been snatched away from me!"

teenagegirlbwThe doctors estimated she had contracted the virus recently and recommended she get in touch with anyone she had had sex with in the previous year. The list was long. "It was easy for me to number the guys I had slept with."

Brown contacted each personally. She asked each man how many partners they had had sex with before her. Each of her partners had averaged eight others with whom they had slept with the previous year. She began to calculate...six partners with her...each of them had averaged ten liaisons before her...and how many more had each of them had sex with others? Quickly she was up in the thousands! She said, "Each time I slept with a partner it was as though I had had sex with a thousand men!"

Brown blames only herself, "Choices I made have stolen away the choices that I might have had in the future."

The virus that causes AIDS is known as the "human immunodeficiency virus" thus, "HIV." We do know that this virus is less infectious than others such as the virus for "hepatitis B." What we also know is that certain BEHAVIORS cause HIV, AIDS, or other SEXUAL TRANSMITTED DISEASES (STDs). It can be prevented by the right choices! The message from God is simple: WAIT UNTIL MARRIAGE! It's your choice...choose virginity and moral purity. You'll be glad you did!

"It is God's will that you should...avoid sexual immorality, that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable!" (I Thessalonians 4:3-5).
