May 18 - Pursued-But Not Forsaken

By Sherman Shell

Today's Scripture: 1 Samuel chapters 22 and 23

Central Thought: God is always faithful to those who are faithful to Him-in spite of those who are not faithful to Him.

Chapters 22 and 23 of 1 Samuel give account of events in the life of David that could have caused him to feel that he was forsaken. He was pursued by his enemy, Saul. David fled, hiding with his enemies, the Philistines and others who would betray him. He feared for his life and the lives of his family and friends. Although he did not know who around him would betray him, David continued to hear from and remain obedient to his God.

Have you ever been condemned wrongly? David was always faithful to his king and never raised his hand against Saul, yet Saul pursued David continually-like a fox chasing a rabbit, determined to kill and destroy. David remained faithful to God and did not blame God as we often tend to do.

Devotional Prayer: Father, help me always trust You in every circumstance of my life. Help me to be faithful and true as David was during his times of great danger and stress. Help me to not lift a hand against anyone You have chosen-even when they are wrong.
