Who Are You?

Dee Salmon

So often, we wonder who we are, or what our purpose in life is. These are questions everyone struggles with at one time or another. I believe the Lord created us with a need in our life, a longing for purpose and a desire to know who we truly are. Only He can meet this need.

mannexttocrossOur identity is in Christ...

"For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory." Col 3:3-4 NLT

If you believe Christ died for you, in reality you died with him. "I have been crucified with Christ and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me." Gal 2:20

At times, we are tempted to find our identity by our achievements or our purpose by our accomplishments, but our identity is not based on us; what we do for a living, the size of our bank accounts, where we live, etc. Our identity is based on Jesus and what he has achieved and accomplished for us through the cross!

We are bombarded every day from the world that our identity is found in the designer clothes we wear or the kind or car we drive. Do we have the latest gadgets? But none of that "stuff" defines who we are! Don't fall into the trap the enemy sets for you.

"Christ is our life, our real life; He is the one who gives us our sense of self. He has given us a new identity; our old man is long gone. We are a new creation!" 2 Cor. 5:17.

Our old self was buried with Christ, and our lives are now hidden in Christ! We are now complete! "So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority." Col 2: 10 NLT

In Christ, we have everything we need. We are filled full with Christ! We have want of nothing more, there is nothing missing! Nothing can be added to the work that was accomplished at Calvary. Our salvation is complete, our identity is secure. We belong to him!

Our purpose is in Christ...

"For through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can't see--such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him." Col 1: 15-16 NLT

We were created for him! But why?

1 Peter 2:9 says, "But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light."

"...Everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made." Isaiah 43:7
Our main purpose in life is to worship and glorify him!Our main purpose in life is to worship and glorify him!

But how do we glorify God? Jesus says we glorify God by bearing fruit (John 15:8). In other words, live out the gospel in our flesh! We are to bring him honor in everything we say, do and think!
