Prayer for Revival
Hello! My name is Evangelist Terry Carter, and for the past 32 years I have been serving the Lord and preaching the gospel with the Assemblies of God.
It is with deep conviction, much prayer, and great excitement that I will be preaching to you a series of messages about Revival.
The title of my message today is, "Prayer for Revival."
My scripture reading comes from Acts 1:12-14, and it says, "Then the apostles returned to Jerusalem from the hill called the Mount of Olives, a Sabbath day's walk from the city. 13 When they arrived, they went upstairs to the room where they were staying… 14 They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers."
"PRAYER FOR REVIVAL!!"
I would like to say at the very start of this series that the most important spiritual tool for a revival is prayer…I would like to repeat that, "The most important spiritual tool for a revival is prayer."
You can have everything else, but without prayer there will be no revival.
- Advertise a meeting until everyone knows about it;
- Have great choir singing heavenly music;
- Raise huge sums of money;
- Have overflowing crowds;
- Have great gospel preaching.
All of these things are fine as they are, but they will not bring revival.
REVIVAL must be prayed down from Heaven, and not worked up from earth.
Now, let's look more closely at the need for, "Prayer for Revival."
The Master's Example in Prayer.
Before deciding on any course of action, we should seek for the example set by Jesus and pattern our actions after His.
Yes, we need to pray, but we must pray as Jesus prayed.
- How did He pray?
- How much did He pray?
- And, what did He pray for?
Jesus was a man of prayer!!
After His baptism and before He entered into His public ministry, Jesus went into the wilderness to Fast and Pray.
Often, Jesus spent the whole night in prayer.
Jesus prayed in the early hours and He prayed continuously.
So great was His agony in prayer that on one occasion we are told His sweat was like blood falling to the ground.
He also prayed, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." Luke 23:34
Before any great undertaking, we also should pray earnestly and continuously as Jesus did.
YES, the life of Jesus was a life of PRAYER.
Prayer is the first thing necessary for a Revival.
There has never been a great revival, except that it was preceded by a season of earnest and sincere prayer.
The disciples prayed and the power of the Holy Spirit fell, and 3,000 souls were saved that very same day.
YES, the revival at Pentecost was preceded by PRAYER.
Some say, "We don't have revivals today like we used to in the days of old."
The reason we don't have revivals like we used to is because we are not believing God for revival in sincere prayer.
The Bible says, "You have not, because you ask not." James 4:3
We must pray, "God, send a world-wide revival and let revival begin with me!"
LISTEN…REVIVAL WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE AND CHANGE THE WORLD!!
What are we to pray for in a revival?
First, we should pray for ourselves.
We as Christians need to first of all get right with God in every way.
David said in Psalm 66:18, "If I regard iniquity in my heart the Lord will not hear me."
If we are going to have revival, we must rid ourselves of any malice, envy, or jealousy in our hearts, and we need to come clean with God.
Second, we need to pray for the power of the Holy Spirit.
Zechariah 4:6 says, "For it's not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord of hosts."
WE MUST have that power, or we will only have a series of meetings and not a revival.
We must pray for that power to fall upon every man, woman, boy and girl…and especially for conviction upon lost sinners to be saved.
Luke 11:13 says, "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him?"
Oh, how we need to pray for the power of the Holy Spirit and Revival!
Third, we need to pray for lost souls.
Matthew 18:19 states, "Again I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for you of my Father which is in heaven."
The wonderful promise about this verse is…IT WORKS!!
When I pray and ask for healing…I believe!
When I pray and ask for souls to be saved…I believe!
When I pray and ask for revival…I believe!
I believe that the greatest revival is yet to come. God says, "We have not because we ask not."
As you listen to this message today, Glory to God…I'm praying and I'm believing for God to send a world-wide revival and a miraculous harvest of souls globally.
God is willing to send a revival to any church and people that will pay the price of prayer.
So I close as I began, by saying that, "Prayer is the most important and the most needed spiritual tool for a revival.
PRAY MY FRIENDS!!
Pray as Jesus would pray.
Pray that revival would start with you.
Pray for the power of the Holy Spirit to move all over the world.
And, Pray for a harvest of souls that mankind all over the world would come to know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
Let us Pray:
Father, I pray for everyone listening to this message today. I pray that You would forgive them of their sins and that they would live for You. I ask this for personal revival in their life in Jesus name, Amen.
I close by saying this; I encourage you to accept Jesus as the Lord of you life today and live for Him. God Bless!
FOR YOU TO CONSIDER:
- Why is it so crucial to pray to a living God?
- A prayer-less life is a God-less life…correct? Why?
- Once we receive the blessings of God, what do we do with them?
- Dedicated and devoted prayer is crucial for Kingdom work…WHY?
