The earliest Roman calendar listed the month of March as the first month of their year. It was named for the Roman god of war and agriculture, Mars, and signaled the commencement of spring in the northern hemisphere. March 1st is the official commencement of the meteorological spring, and the equinox occurs on the 20th or 21st, being the astronomical beginning of the northern hemisphere spring season.
This year of 2015 Easter is celebrated in the first week of April. We can use March to prepare our people, as followers of Jesus, for the coming season of the passion crucifixion and resurrection of our Lord.
