Are you job hunting or do you already have a job? Here's a word of warning... what you put on "face-book" can get you fired or will keep you from getting a job. Employees like to think that what they do on their own time is their personal business BUT that is not always the case!
According to a 2009 survey by the "American Management Association" and the "ePolicy Institute," 27% of companies now have policies about what employees can post on their personal blogs!
Nancy Flynn, executive director of the institute says, "You have to think about whether this will come back to haunt you." This thought never crossed the mind of Nate Fulmer, a warehouse manager for a chemical supplier. Fulmer and his wife made fun of a local church sermon in a podcast they posted online in 2005. Fulmer says it got so much attention, his boss listened to it, thought it was offensive and fired him. "I was blindsided," he says.
According to Flynn's survey, more than 2% of companies have dismissed employees over the content of personal social-networking pages. So her advice to you is to check company policy before posting anything that is potentially offensive...even if it has nothing to do with work! (Adapted from SMART MONEY, May 2010)
The Bible tells us that the tongue is something hard to tame...it should also specifically include the computer on a blog is also hard to tame. As a part of healthy living we are to speak well and write well of others, always! A word to you who are wise should be sufficient, today as well as tomorrow!
"An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up" (Proverbs 12:25).
