Following the runaway success of her book, THE JOY LUCK CLUB, the first time novelist Amy Tan feared she might be typecast. "I didn't want to be the mother-daughter expert," she said, "So I tried something else until I realized that rebellion was not a good reason to write."
Then, her mother provided the inspiration for her next project. "I knew she had lived a harsh, repressive life in China. I asked about World War II and she said, 'I wasn't affected.' Then she talked about the bombs falling, 'We were always scared they would hit us.' I pointed out that she said she wasn't affected. 'I wasn't,' she replied, 'I wasn't killed.' That statement became a revelation."
Tan's goal was to understand the difference between her perspective on life and her mother's life-perspective. Later during the Tiananmen Square uprising Amy wrote the book, THE KITCHEN GOD'S WIFE, based on her mother's life. Amy then said, "I wanted to know what it is like to live a life of repression, to know fear and what you must do to rise above fear!"
Did you catch what she just said? "What you must do to rise above fear." Fear is an enemy that can reduce the best of us to jelly. What is the secret to overcoming fear? There is a major clue found in God's Word, the Bible. Read through it see if you can find the 365 written "fear nots"! There is one for every day of the year...just for you!
