This is an old legend: There were three student devils in hell who were about to go with their teacher to earth for some on-the-job training as devil interns. Their internship supervisor asked them what techniques they planned to use to tempt people to sin.
The first little devil said, "I think I'll use the classical approach. I'll tell the people 'There's no God, so sin up a storm and enjoy your life'."
The second little devil said, "I think I'll use a more subtle approach. I'll tell people, 'There's no hell, so sin up a storm and enjoy life'."
The third little devil said, "I think I'll use a less intellectual approach. I'll tell people, 'There's no hurry, you have lots of time to get right with God, so now sin up a storm, enjoy life, and someday you can always repent of your sin'."
Now...the question for you: To which of these little devils have you been listening to, lately? Any one in particular...or are you like the young lady who said, "I can resist anything but temptation." What is it that you have been putting off in life? Temptation is only a temptation when you listen and contemplate the possibility. A temptation always presents you with the "pleasure" of sin...and never the end result of sin.
A temptation is where sin begins. Without an enticement, there is no action of sin. The temptation may be long lasting, it may come in an instant of time, it may happen when you are in a weakened state of mind...it may come when you are on top of your game! It's subtle or over the top. It's a constant...BUT it can be overcome! You can experience a victory with the help of the Lord Jesus Christ! He was the ultimate overcomer of temptation! Ask Him to help you when temptation comes!
"God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed!" (James 1:13)
