A "May-day" signal went out from a small Japanese trawler that they were being sunk and needed to be rescued. The dazed crew was recovered by their coast guard as they were clinging to the wreckage of their boat. Their rescue, however, was followed by their being put in jail once the authorities were questioning them as to why their boat had been sunk.
The crew, to each man, claimed the same unbelievable story. They claimed that a cow, falling out of a clear blue sky, had struck their small trawler mid-ship and shattered it's hull and sank their vessel within minutes. The authorities didn't believe their story and thought this far-fetched lie was a cover-up for the real reason.
They remained in jail for several weeks waiting their trial, until the Russian Air Force reluctantly informed the Japanese authorities that the crew of one of their cargo planes had apparently stolen a cow from the edge of a Siberian air field. They wanted to take it home to be butchered. So they forced the cow into the plane's cargo hold and hurriedly flew home.
However...the plane and the crew were not equipped to manage a rampaging cow inside the cargo hold. To save the plane and themselves, they shoved the animal out of the cargo hold as they crossed the Sea of Japan at 30,000 feet!
