Bad Threads

Robert Strand

threadsThere is a shoe manufacturing company in Thailand that discovered their productivity in their factory had dropped. Perhaps a better way to say it was that their output had fallen off the cliff. And there was another problem...their customers were complaining about the quality of their shoes. They were coming apart.

So the company called in a consultant to figure what was going wrong. The first thing this consultant did was the last thing that most management people think to do. He went out on the factory floor and began talking with the assembly line workers. He asked them what they thought had gone wrong with their production.

They told the consultant exactly what had gone wrong. They told him that putting shoes together takes a lot of thread. The sewing machine operators said that recently, the new thread they were using kept breaking. They were spending too much of their "production time" re-threading their machines and therefore production was shut down.

The consultant checked out the "thread" problem. He learned that one of their purchasing agents had found a cheaper price on thread. The company was able to save pennies per each bobbin of thread...which added up to a substantial saving. The only problem was that productivity dropped in half and their customers refused to buy their shoes!

Making the Shoes of Life

In making shoes and in making your life...it's important to pay attention to the small threads in your life that hold it together. Build with quality materials that will not break under the stress of real life. The quality materials on which to build your life are found in God's Word, in His Church, with His people! Build well...for the long walk!

"Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens...but built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone" (Ephesians 2:19-20).
