A man who was an antique dealer and who specialized in rare books watched as this very un-bookish man entered and was browsing through his store. Somehow the subject of old books came up and this un-bookish guy said that he had just thrown away an old book that was just taking up room in the family attic. He added, "It had been packed away for generations in the attic and we needed to clean it out."
Then he added, "Somebody named 'Guten' something or other had printed it,"
The book lover gasped, "Not Gutenberg?"
"Yes...I believe it was Gutenberg," the very un-bookish man replied.
The antique dealer said, "You may just have thrown away one of the first books ever printed. One copy of the Bible recently sold at Christie's at auction for more than $600,000!"
The other man, still unmoved replied, "Oh, yes, but my copy wouldn't have brought a dime because some guy by the name of Martin Luther had scribbled notes all over it."
The Bible Is a Treasure
Okay...so your Bible may not be worth that much. In reality it may be worth more than the rare copy of the Bible we just talked about because of the wisdom for life and living it contains! By the way...when was the last time you have read or studied your Bible? My challenge to you is will you read your Bible on a daily basis? How about intentionally reading your Bible completely through this year?! THE STUDY OF THE BIBLE IS A POST-GRADUATE COURSE BASED ON THE RICHEST LIBRARY OF HUMAN EXPERIENCE!
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth" (II Timothy 2:15).
