READ: Numbers 32-34
THINK: Are you adventurous? Do you like to travel-to explore-to take the road less traveled-to venture into the great unknown? Whether that's your style or not, you're still on a journey that will take you through many twists and turns-peaks and valleys. Sometimes, the route will be invigorating, at other times it will be excruciating. You'll even hit a dead end from time to time. And while you don't know exactly what's ahead, you have access to the One who knows precisely where you're headed and where you need to turn to reach your life's ultimate destination. Jesus not only guides you if you ask, He sends the Holy Spirit to walk right beside you every step of your journey.
RESPOND: Why was Moses extremely displeased with the Reubenites and Gadites when they first made their request to stay in the lands of Jazer and Gilead (32:6-15)? What concession was Moses willing to make for these two tribes so they could have the land they wanted? (See 32:20 note.) Why do you think God's Word records a detailed overview of the Israelite's journeys from the time they left Egypt to the time they came to the promised land? What are some benefits of recalling and even recording what God has brought you through? Why do you think Aaron's death is highlighted in the outline of Israel's journeys? What does this indicate about acknowledging faithful ministers and leaders? What were Moses' specific instructions to the Israelites regarding what they were to do after crossing the Jordan (33:51-54)? Though these instructions may seem harsh, why was it vital for Israel to follow them completely? What would happen if the Israelites failed to follow the instructions to completely drive out and destroy the land's inhabitants? (See 33:55 note.) What lesson must the church today learn from this?
PRAY: Give God thanks for His constant guidance and companionship on your spiritual journey. Praise Him for specific victories in your past and thank Him for the ones He will help you win in the days ahead.
ACT: If even the slightest hint of spiritual distraction, compromise or corruption remains in your life-in your relationships, your conversations, your behavior, your entertainment or your possessions-rid your life of those spiritual "enemies" immediately. Do this before any of these things pull you away from God or ultimately destroy you.
