January 26 - Exodus 10-12

Fire Bible Student Edition - Fire Starter

READ: Exodus 10-12

THINK: People often claim that religion and faith are private matters. But many use the privacy excuse simply to justify their timid silence. While a relationship with God is deeply personal, it was never meant to be private. A true follower of Jesus must take Him at His word when He says, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6). So it's not only appropriate to talk about your faith in Jesus, it's absolutely vital to tell others what He's done for you. "But do this with gentleness and respect" (1 Peter 3:15).

RESPOND: Judging from God's words to Moses in chapter 10, what's one of the reasons that God reveals His power and does miracles for His people? (See 10:2 note.) What should you do when God answers your prayers or does great things for you? Why is it important to let others know what God has done? Why do you think that many of the Egyptians-even Pharaoh's officials-had such high regard for the Israelites (11:3)? In what way was God's final plague on Egypt a consequence of how they had treated others? (See 11:5 note.) What's the significance of the Passover, and why is the month containing the Passover the first month in the Jewish calendar? (See 12:2 note.) What's the prophetic significance of the lamb's blood being placed on the sides and tops of the door frames? (See 12:7 note.) What's the symbolism and significance of the various aspects of the Passover feast, including the bitter herbs, the bread made without yeast and eating quickly? (See 12:8 and 12:11 notes.) Why is the Passover to be celebrated over the generations, and what ceremony or "ordinance" carries much of the same significance for New Testament Christians? (See 12:14 note.) What can New Testament Christians learn from this feast? (See 12:17 note, subpoint 3.) In what way does the Passover remind Christians of what Jesus did? (See 12:26 note.)

PRAY: Thank Jesus for covering, forgiving and removing your sin by the sacrifice of His own life.

ACT: Take an opportunity to tell someone about something God has done for you recently. Bring it up in a conversation with a friend. Give a testimony in a church service or write a poem or song you can share with others. Sometime today, read the article on The Passover, p. 114 in the FBSE.
