A Whole Landscape of Positive

An artist was teaching his students how to paint.

On a special occasion, he took them all on an all-day trip to a particular hill, where the sunsets were exceptionally beautiful. Just as the colors broke – purple, red, pink, orange, yellow, and gold – the teacher walked behind his students who were all intently capturing the artistic moment.

To his disappointment, he found one student who was diligently painting the shingle on a barn in the valley under the sunset. He had missed the glorious shading of sunset in favor of a shingle!

Lesson?

Don’t use a microscope to find the negative, when if you’ll just open your eyes, you will be overwhelmed by a whole landscape of positive!

The relationship of attitude to bodily health is something known from ancient times.

Proverbs 17:22, “A merry heart does good like medicine.”

In the article, “Smile – A Lot. It Just Might Save Your Life,” we read,

“One of the keys to a longer, healthier life just might be in your smile. In a recent study of more than 6,000 adults over 50, scientists found that those with sunny dispositions had a significantly reduced risk of stroke. Optimistic people tend to make healthier choices about diet and exercise, researchers speculate; some findings also suggest positive thinking has a direct influence on how well your body works.”

Proverbs 15:13 teaches that the face is the index of the condition of the mind. “A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance.”

“I don’t like the looks of that man,” Abraham Lincoln is reported to have said to an aide. “A person can’t help what he looks like, Mr. President,” the aide replied.

“Oh, yes, he can,” Mr. Lincoln answered.

“The outcome of your life will be determined by your outlook on life.”
