READ: Revelation 19:11-21
THINK: The first time Jesus came--by birth--few people witnessed the event. During His time on earth, few recognized Him as the world's Savior. Yet, when He sets foot on earth again, all will witness His return (Revelation 1:7); no one will mistake His identity. He won't arrive as a helpless infant or suffering servant, but as a warrior and conquering King. Those who rejected the reason for His first coming--to forgive and save them--will not escape the "fury of the wrath" (19:15) of His second coming.
RESPOND: Verse 11 begins the final revelation of what climactic event? (See 19:11 note.) What's the significance of Christ having "a name written on him that no one knows but he himself"? (See 19:12 note.) Who is part of "the armies of heaven" that return to earth with Jesus? (See 19:14 note.) What does it mean that Christ will rule the nations "with an iron scepter"? (See 19:15 first note.) What does it mean that "He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty"? (See 19:15 second note.) What are the implications of the title "KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS"? In what way will Christ's future return to earth differ greatly from His coming by birth? (See 19:16 note.) What's "the great supper of God"? (See 19:17 note.) How does that "supper" contrast with the celebration at "the wedding supper of the Lamb" (v. 9)? How and why will national armies gather at Armageddon? (See 19:19 note.) How will this "battle" end? What will happen to the antichrist and his false prophet (v. 20)? In the last days, why must those who want to remain faithful to God be cautious and rely on the Holy Spirit? (See 19:20 note.) What are the differing views regarding who is destroyed and who remains alive when the battle of Armageddon is over? (See 19:21 note.) How would these different scenarios relate to Christ's thousand-year reign on earth?
PRAY: Worship Jesus as the Faithful and True King of kings and Lord of lords, and for being greater than you can comprehend. Thank Him for the opportunity to be part of His victorious army when He returns to earth to defeat the antichrist and his allies.
ACT: Go through the day with an awareness that you serve and are empowered by the victorious King of kings and Lord of lords. Allow this thinking to inspire a humble faith and boldness to honor Jesus in all you say and do. Create a poem, song, drawing or other artistic work conveying the hope and splendor of Jesus' return to earth at the end of the tribulation period.
