October 28 - Freedom from the Past

By Barbara Lighthizer

Today's Scripture: Titus 3:3-8

Central Thought: Christ brings freedom from the past.

Paul paints a picture of our life before we accepted God's gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. No matter how far we went into sin and how repulsive our acts may have been, God's love, grace, and mercy gives us the unique gift of experiencing rebirth and claiming the promise of eternal life.

It's Satan's job to harass us, causing us to doubt our salvation and usefulness as a Christian. He takes great delight in tormenting us by dangling memories of past sins and poor decisions across our minds. As Christians, we can rely on God's promise that our sins are forgiven, and He will not remember them against us.

The Lord has a plan for our life, and He promises to never leave or forsake us. Let's not allow Satan to steal our joy and peace of mind. Our past is just that—past. Our life in Christ is full of hope.

Devotional Prayer: Lord, help me to look beyond the past and enjoy renewed freedom and hope in You.
