Today's Scripture: 2 Timothy 4:1-8
Central Thought: Are we ready to witness?
Paul reminds Timothy to be ready at anytime to tell people about Jesus and to give careful instruction. Before Jesus ascended into heaven, He told those who were with Him to go and tell the world the good news. Witnessing about what the Lord has done in our life is part of telling the good news, but we must also be prepared to lead a person to Christ and give instruction about the Christian walk.
When we need to take a test, we study; when we want to play an instrument, we take instruction; when we desire to learn a craft, we sign up for lessons. The greatest privilege we have is telling someone about our Lord, and the Bible is our instruction manual. Only with prayer and study will we have the confidence to speak with boldness.
It is easy to be caught up with our family, career, and church activities. But that doesn't excuse us from our mandate to be ready to witness. Do we purpose in our heart to tell others about the Lord and to take the time to prepare ourselves?
Devotional Prayer: Lord help me to take advantage of opportunities You give me to witness for You.
