October 23 - Freedom from Bondage

By Barbara Lighthizer

Today's Scripture: 2 Timothy 2:19-21

Central Thought: Will we do our part to avoid sinful practices?

The greatest blessing of being a Christian is our fellowship with the Lord. His relationship with us is solid and secure; however, He requires something of us. We must turn away from sin. It is not a suggestion—it is a requirement. This does not mean He demands perfection. We'll make mistakes and fail from time to time, but we must not allow sin to become a life-style. Whether it's pornography, adultery, drugs or alcohol abuse—or it's criticizing, gossiping or lying—sin separates us from the Lord.

The Lord never requires the impossible. With His help, we can break free from the sin that enslaves us and have full deliverance. The sinful cravings seldom are removed instantly, but with a repentant heart and a determined mind, we can leave the sinful habit and never return. It's a difficult journey, but the Lord will walk with us each step of the way. What lies ahead is the unspeakable joy of freedom from bondage and having a close relationship with Jesus.

Devotional Prayer: Lord, help me avoid the snares that could lead me into bondage. May I always enjoy freedom from the bondage of sin as I trust You to help me avoid sinful practices.
