Today's Scripture: Colossians 4:4-6
Central Thought: Sharing our faith need not be intimidating if we prepare ourselves through prayer, the study of God's Word, and active participation in a local body of believers.
Recently, a pastor presided over the funeral service of a committed believer from his congregation. As was his custom, the pastor clearly presented the gospel to those present, offering them an opportunity to give their lives to Christ. After the service, a man approached him, thanked him, and casually commented, 'I never knew he was a Christian.”
Would they say the same of you?
Many Christians fear sharing their faith, feeling inadequate and unprepared to answer questions others might ask. Others fear hostility or rejection. Yet, God calls each of us to 'be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity” (Colossians 4:5 NIV). Further, 2 Timothy 4:2 tells us that we should 'be prepared in season and out of season” (NIV). How do we prepare ourselves for those divine appointments God provides each day?
Colossians 4:2-4 tells us how. We are to devote ourselves to prayer, asking God to open a door for our message, that we may proclaim the truth clearly. God's Word also teaches, 'be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15 NASB).
Effective ministry requires diligence and commitment not only to prayer and God's Word, but also to a local body of believers. Active participation in the life and ministry of our church, submitting ourselves to those in authority, and supporting the work of the ministry through tithes and offerings positions us to grow spiritually. Neglect in any of these areas hinders our spiritual growth and usefulness to God.
Sharing our faith need not be intimidating. We each have a unique story to tell, one that will touch the hearts and lives of those God places within our sphere of influence. So pursue God passionately and devote yourself to prayer and the study of His Word; then step out in faith, and watch the Lord move in the lives of those around you!
Devotional Prayer: Lord, give me wisdom to make the most of opportunities You send my way. Use me to touch lives for Your kingdom.
