Today's Scripture: Isaiah 44:1–5
Central Thought: The Lord can refresh us when we are spiritually dry.
Jack wiped his brow before continuing to rake the leaves in the back yard. He looked to the west and saw some dark clouds rolling in. In a few minutes a cool and refreshing breeze blew through, followed shortly by the invigorating raindrops. Jack wanted to stay in the back yard and soak in the experience. The toil of the afternoon soon seemed like nothing more than a memory.
Isaiah referred to another time of refreshing that the nation of Israel urgently needed. They had suffered greatly under the oppression of foreign nations. Their homes, fields, and livestock were gone. Many of their friends and family were dead, and maybe worst of all, they did not have access to the temple to worship God. The people may have felt that all hope was gone, but God had a plan for their hope and restoration. Like a fresh rain on parched ground, God would pour out His Spirit on the nation and bring them back to their land.
God wants us to experience His refreshing during our dry times. We need to call upon Him and wait for the promised rain He will send us.
Devotional Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for pouring out Your Spirit upon me and renewing me in my walk with You.
