Today's Scripture: Job 14:1–2
Central Thought: We need to make sure our lives have meaning and purpose.
Have you sung the chorus, 'In my life, Lord, be glorified”? Hopefully, you stopped to consider the words coming from your mouth and the powerful meaning they carry.
As Job was defending his integrity from his 'comforters'” attacks, he pointed out a sobering but important truth—our lives as people are far too brief. He describes human life as full of trouble and compares its duration to that of the wild flowers in the grazing lands. These flowers may look beautiful, but they remain for just a short time.
As we consider the brevity of life, we need to evaluate the quality with which we live that life for God. Do we make serving God our chief priority, or do we relegate whatever time we have left over to Him? God does not want our leftovers; He wants the first and best from us. When we consider the great sacrifice paid for our sins by Jesus, it is easy to understand why we should make sure our lives are making a difference for God. Take time today to evaluate your own life, and determine to let it matter for Him.
Devotional Prayer: Lord, help me to make the most of the time You have given me.
