Today's Scripture: 2 Chronicles 1:11, 12.
Central Thought: God wants us to desire the right things.
"Oh, Lord, please give me everything, and give it to me now." Have you heard prayers that seemed like this? We can pray for many things, but God wants us to have the right priorities.
Today let us look at the importance of asking God for the right things. Here we see that the right thing for Solomon to ask for was wisdom and understanding. King Solomon asked God for these most needed attributes instead of asking for wealth, riches, and honor to indulge on himself. Because God delighted in the good requests Solomon made, He also gave him things he did not request.
Many times we do not understand the importance of asking for the right things more than all other things we might consider. Solomon requested the wisdom he would need to build and maintain God's house. When we pray, we should ask for the things that will best help us serve Him.
Consider the things that will help you serve God. Chances are the list will include wisdom and knowledge. We need these everyday of our lives.
Devotional Prayer: Father, thank You for helping me see the need for desiring good things.
