July 19 - Dwelling in God's Sanctuary

By Rev. Marcus Devasahayam Thomas

Today's Scripture: Psalm 15:1.

Central Thought: God wants us to live in His presence.

The sign outside the luxurious country club read, 'Members Only.” A security guard at the high gate checks every person seeking entrance to make sure that no outsiders can enter. Members enter and enjoy the privileges afforded them, while outsiders are turned away.

God's kingdom also has membership requirements. Psalm 15 gives us this list:

Psalm 15:2:

  •  He whose walk is blameless
  •  He who does what is righteous
  • He who speaks the truth from his heart

Psalm 15:3:

  • He who has no slander on his tongue
  • He who does his neighbor no wrong
  • He who casts no slur on his fellowman

Psalm 15:4:

  • He who despises a vile man but honors those who fear the LORD
  • He who keeps his oath even when it hurts

Psalm 15:5:

  • He who lends his money without usury
  • He who does not accept a bribe against the innocent

As important as these things are, we need to remember the most important requirement of membership—accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior. If we have made this decision, we can be confident He will help us obey the list in Psalm 15.

Devotional Prayer: Father, thank You for giving me membership into Your Kingdom.
