Today's Scripture: Proverbs 19:1-3
Central Thought: True zeal leads to godly knowledge.
'Class, I want you to read ALL of the instructions before your begin the exam.” The students opened the exams and began writing. They noticed that the questions seemed confusing and were very difficult. Several minutes later some of the students got to the last question. 'Do not answer any of the proceeding questions. Just write your first and last name here and hand the test in.” The collective groan from the students was intense.
Today's passage discusses the difference between godly zeal and haste. A hasty person simply wants to do something without first considering whether the actions are in God's plans. Godly zeal actively seeks God's plan and acts when that plan becomes clear. This type of zeal helps us learn more about God's plan for our lives.
The question for us to consider is, what type of people we want to be? Do we want to be hasty, or do we want to hear God's directions for our lives? As we chose God's directions, we will find His leadership in our lives.
Devotional Prayer: Lord, thank You for reminding me that I need to listen to Your plan for my life and then obey.
