Today's Scripture: Psalm 5:7-8
Central Thought: God's great mercy should bring about reverence in our lives.
'Be assertive. Show everyone you have all of the answers.” Maybe you have heard of someone who had this philosophy of life. This person had to act like he or she always had the answers, whether he or she actually did. As you look at today's Scripture, it is clear that David, the powerful king of Israel, did not have all of the answers.
David cried out to God for help in delivering him from his enemies. Yet, his appeals were not simply a show of his authority—he bowed in reverence before God, appealing to His great mercy. He asked God to guide his steps as he led this nation in some dangerous times. David knew to trust in God's help, not in his own ability.
The truths we see displayed in David's life are no less important today. We cannot afford to believe that we have all of the answers to life's issues. We need to bow our hearts before God in reverence, depending on Him to lead us. God will never fail us as we trust in His guidance.
Devotional Prayer: Lord, remind me of Your mercies as I bow in reverence before You.
