Devotional Scripture: Joshua 1:6-9
Central Thought: Courage comes through meditating on God's Word.
Joshua faced a huge challenge. Moses was dead and Israel looked to him as its leader. Forty years of dealing with rebellion and God's discipline made it clear that this would not be an easy job—yet God chose Him for the position. Fortunately, Joshua was not alone. God brought him a timely message of instruction on how to lead the nation.
God promised to be with Joshua everywhere he went. However, Joshua had an important responsibility—to meditate night and day on God's Word. Simply looking at the Scriptures for a few minutes on the way to the next meeting was not enough. Only a daily, disciplined and determined study of God's Word would provide the strength and courage Joshua needed to lead this nation.
Faithful meditation on God's Word is no less important for us today. We must be careful not to let the pressures of our daily schedules keep us from studying and meditating on the Word. Like Joshua, we need strength and courage to meet the challenges of our lives. A nation may not be looking to our leadership, but friends and family may need His strength working through us to meet their needs. Let's practice a habit of meditating on His Word.
Devotional Prayer: Father, I commit myself to meditating night and day on Your Word.
