Devotional Scripture: Deuteronomy 30:19-20
Central Thought: God wants us to choose the path of life and blessing.
"The main things are the plain things." Have you ever heard a lecture that was so deep you really wondered what the speaker was trying to say? Unfortunately, some spend so much time in the lesser details that they miss the main point of a presentation.
In Deuteronomy 30:19-20, Moses turned the Israelites' attention to the most important thing they had to deal with—life or death. As the people chose to obey God, He blessed them with abundant life. However, when they rebelled against His commands, He brought suffering and death to them. In Moses' last speech to the nation, he laid out the options—choose life by obeying God or choose death by disobeying Him.
Today many do not feel they have any responsibilities to obey God. To them, life is simply governed by chance, and the most important thing is doing what they deem best for themselves. However, as children of God we need to make obeying God our most important priority. As we focus on serving Him, we are choosing the greatest life possible.
Devotional Prayer: Lord, show me ways that I can please You. I desire the abundant life that You offer everyone who serves You.
