Today's Scripture: Proverbs 10:27-28
Central Thought: The secret to long life is a reverence and respect of God.
They are annoying to say the least, but you can't help but chuckle a bit when you see some of them. I'm referring to those infomercials on radio and TV. They offer everything imaginable to make life easier, help you lose weight, or solve any number of personal problems. One of the newer products now 'guarantees” that it will reverse the aging process.
Since the time of the early century explorers, man has gone to the ends of the earth in search of the fountain of youth. Perhaps these modern-day 'medicine shows” demonstrate that mankind still fears growing old, because growing old signals the nearness of the end of life.
The real solution to this mindset is nestled in today's scripture reading. The 'fountain of youth” is based in a reverence and a respect for God. The reason the writer can make this bold statement is simple. Living God's way is by far the best way to live. Of course, proverbs are not ironclad guarantees, but you just can't go wrong by heeding their advice and principles.
Devotional Prayer: Dear God, help me live my life based on a respect and reverence for You and the way You told me to live.
