December 28 - We Are to Worship God

Today's Scripture: Revelation 19:10

Central Thought: We are to worship the Creator more than His creation.

Worship means different things to different people. One of the primary functions that we will have as Christians in heaven will be that of worship. We will have the privilege and joy of worshipping God for eternity! When the Apostle John is visited by an angel in Revelation 19, John fell at the angel's feet to worship, but the angel quickly corrected John's theology of worship as he said, 'You must not do that! . . . Worship God.”

Worship God! An important question regarding worship is not, 'How do we worship?” but 'Who are we worshipping?”

Michael Knott wrote: 'When it comes to our attitude toward God in worship, I have often found Christians to be like the woman in the Lexus TV commercial. On Christmas morning, she finds a full-sized luxury SUV in her living room. The vehicle is topped with a gigantic, picture-perfect red ribbon. Turning to her husband with a look of astonishment on her face, all she can think to ask is, 'Where did you get a bow that big?'! She has a fully equipped SUV in her living room, yet she is distracted by an ornament. ”

Is it possible that we can become focused on incidentals when we gather to celebrate all God has for us in Jesus Christ? Anything that comes between me and a full, complete relationship with God can be an idol in my life. Work can be an idol. My family can be an idol. Sports can be an idol. Ministry can be an idol. Other Christians can be an idol.

As you are reading this today, you might find yourself in a situation where it is difficult to worship God. Circumstances seem to be overwhelming, life has become a chore, and you have lost the joy that your relationship with God once brought you. Perhaps you are full of worry. Worry is a form of unbelief, a feeling that 'if it's to be, it's up to me.” Worry, is saying, 'God, I don't believe You can handle it, I must take control!”

In worship we find a release and a reprieve from the daily trials of our lives. You can worry or you can worship. Worship God! Worhsip your Creator, not your circumstances!

Devotional Prayer: Father, help me to worship You this day. I turn my worries over to You.
