Today's Scripture: Psalm 147:10-11
Central Thought: God delights in those who fear Him.
'Wow! That athlete is really strong. His biceps and triceps are huge.” Athletes spend a great deal of time getting into the best possible shape to succeed in their respective sports. Those in the professional sphere understand that good conditioning can lead to a lot more income. Sometimes Christians feel that God values these same external characteristics. They may feel God only wants the good looking or the talented to serve Him. Yet, as we examine today's reading, we see a different set of priorities.
God looks at a person's heart and not at the external qualities upon which others might focus their attention. God wants people who fear Him with a holy respect. He wants people who keep their priorities on who He is and not upon who they are. Part of fearing God is placing our hope in His perfect love.
Fearing God is both a decision and a process. First, we determine to fear God; then we learn what that commitment means by serving Him and making correct choices on a daily basis. If we desire God's delight in our lives, we need to determine to place our devotion and respect on Him and who He is.
Devotional Prayer: Lord I trust You and submit my life to You.
