April 7 - The Land of Promise

By Triana Burroughs

Today's Scripture: Deuteronomy 32:10-11

Central Thought: God will draw you out of the desert and into a land of Promise.

I loved playing hide and seek as a child. It was always so much fun to discover a place where no one could find me. I was always very good at it and was hardly ever found. I still love to play games. At times I have found myself hiding in my spirit. It is not always out of disobedience but because I have not relied on the Lord. Just like the Hebrews, I had allowed the Lord to bring me out of a place of slavery; but I still had not fully trusted Him.

In Deuteronomy 32 Moses recounts the trials of the Hebrews. After being brought into freedom they rebelled against the Lord by not trusting in Him. Even through that trial, the Lord looked on them and loved them. Because of His love for His children, He showered them with His mercy. He shielded them from harm and cared for them through their defiance.

Deuteronomy 32:11 compares the Lord to a mother eagle that spread out her wings to catch her young. Time and again the Lord drew His people to Him, desiring that their hearts be turned only toward Him. When their forty years had passed He led them into the land that was waiting for them. Only when their hearts were ready did He show them the fulfillment of His promise.

The Lord is still with us today. Even though we wander away from Him and seem lost in the desert of our disobedience, He still walks beside us. He does not bring us out of slavery only to lose us in the desert. When you find yourself feeling alone in that desolate place, cry out to Him. He will move mountains to bring you into the land He has promised you.

Devotional Prayer: Lord, help me to be willing to trust You to draw me out of the desert experiences I face in my life.
