January 1 - Start at the Beginning

By Don Bailey

Today's Scripture: Genesis 1:27-31

Central Thought: God created us in His image.

"He is the spitting image of his dad. He will go far in life." Sometimes it is a great compliment to be compared to someone else. People see certain similarities and develop high expectations for the person said to be in the image of the other.

In today's passage, God declares that He made humanity in His image. Though we are not omnipotent, we have certain characteristics that point to our Heavenly Father. We can allow His presence to live within us, and we can know Christ as our personal Lord and Savior. Because of His presence living within us, others can look at our lives and see God's nature.

We need to consider the many people we encounter each day. Many of these people need to know that Christ died for their sins and wants them to receive the gift of eternal life that He offers. As we are faithful in obeying God and letting His nature flow through our lives, others will see the answer to their internal spiritual hunger. Make it a point today to be a "spitting" image of God.

Devotional Prayer: Lord, help me to live so that others can see Christ within me.
