December 25 - An Eternal Perspective

By: Mike Clarensau

Today's Scripture: Psalms 144:4

Central Thought: Life is temporary. God is eternal.

I've heard it said many times, 'it's not what happens to me, but what happens in me that counts.” True. True. Very true. We all walk through days of difficulty.

You find out that you got passed over for a promotion. Your taxes come back showing that you owe a couple thousand dollars. You find out that one of your children is not serving God. It seems like the problems that come our way are relentless. Bam, bam, bam, one hit after another. During those times it's easy to lose the one thing that will see you through—perspective. An eternal perspective—keeping an eternal focus on life and not a temporary one.

Part of that perspective comes from realizing that as the Psalmist wrote, 'we are like a breath, our days are like a fleeting shadow.” We are here today, gone tomorrow. No one is irreplaceable. Everyone will die. The last I heard the death rate in America is still 100%. Tomorrow is not promised to us. So let us take today and make the most of it!

Here's the principle: Life is temporary, but so are your problems! God has everything under control! Even more important than realizing that you can hold on to God is the fact that God is holding on to you! Remember: 'These things too shall pass.” Yesterday is gone, tomorrow is not yet here, and today is all we have.

Devotional Prayer: Father, help me to realize that You do have everything under control.
