Today's Scripture: Revelation 4:2
Central Thought: There is a peace knowing someone greater than ourselves is in control.
We can only imagine how John must have felt as he found himself suddenly whisked away from the dry, barren island of Patmos and dropped in the throne room of heaven itself. The glory and grandeur of that place defied description. The sights and sound must have overpowered every sensory organ he had, as he saw unfold before his eyes, the final days of this earth that were yet to come. The sad part was, he couldn't stay. Eventually he would have to return to earth to finish out his life.
One thing he observed and recorded there, probably stayed with him all the days of his life. It could provide him hope in a hopeless environment. Verse 2 records that John saw a throne and he saw someone sitting upon it. To his culture, a throne signified the seat of absolute power, and the one sitting on the throne possessed that power and could manifest it any way or time he saw fit.
John had to rejoice at this sight. He had become acutely aware of who was really in control of everything that was taking place in heaven and on earth.
Today, you and I face many difficult circumstances and situations. Many of them are beyond our control through no fault of our own. In times like these always remember, there is a throne in heaven and there is someone sitting on that throne. God has it all under control.
Devotional Prayer: Dear Father, when life takes an unexpected turn, help me remember that You are on the throne and You are in control of that which may seem out of control.
