Today's Scripture: Revelation 2:4-6
Central Thought: God wants to be the first love of our lives.
Spend any time at a magazine or book rack, and you will quickly see that today's world is very interested in love. Unfortunately, the 'love” these publications discuss, falls far short of the love God has for us. His love is totally pure and seeks the best for His children—regardless of the situation.
In today's reading, God inspired John to write to the church at Ephesus and point out their need of a renewal of love in their own lives. The church was hard-working, hated evil, and persevered in the many trials they faced. Yet, like so many in the Church today, they lost the closeness they once had with the Lord. Their love for Him cooled from an earnest desire to serve Him to a form and duty.
It is far too easy to lose the closeness we once had with the Lord. We face so many pressures and responsibilities (often within the context of our local church) that we lose sight of the passion we once had for the Lord. Yet, God wants us to come back to Him and renew the passion and love for Him that we once had.
Devotional Prayer: Help me, Lord, to rekindle my love for You.
