What Really Is Death?

Dr. Eric Fromm, a famous author/psychologist, when debating the argument of the day..."God is Dead" argued we should be debating the question: "Is man dead?" He went on to explain, "Mankind has been transformed into a thing...a producer...a idolater of other things..."

We sit for hours in front of bad television without even knowing we are bored. We learn that millions of children around the world are literally starving to death without even relating this need to the teaching of the Bible about caring for the hungry. We have joined the rat-race of material things that are measured in dollars and cents, all the time unaware of the anxiety we are enduring.

THIS REPRESENTS DEATH as far as Christians understand it to be. IT IS NOT TRUE THAT PHYSICAL DEATH IS THE FINAL ENEMY! The last enemy is hell... spiritual death, which can be conquered.

The New York Times writer, Russell Baker, wrote it like this: "It's all right to want it all. We have advertisements in which people who have it all torment people who don't have it all. They display their fantastic dental work, their stunning physiques, their incredible automobiles, beautiful mansions, tasty burgers and wine and pizza and beer, saying, 'It doesn't get any better than this'. Which is another way of saying, 'We've got it all'."

Don't deceive yourself. IF that's all there is to your fulfillment as child of God, then it doesn't get any worse than this. IF that's all it takes for you to say, "I've got it all," then WHAT YOU'VE REALLY GOT IS NOTHING!

"What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?" (Matthew 16:26)
