April 9 - Goals

GOALS

Statistics and surveys tell me that if I were to ask each you...less than 5% of you could tell me your goals in life are! These same surveys tell me that 95 out of every 100 people have no idea where are they are going or what they want to do with the rest of their living. We can conclude that the vast majority of people are simply moving with the tides of life and chance.

But not this eight-year-old boy! He told his mother and everyone who would listen to him, he said, "I am going to be the greatest baseball catcher that ever lived!" People laughed at him. His mother told him he was too little to be thinking about such things..."besides, this is an impossible dream."

When he graduated from high school, as he walked across the platform to receive his diploma, the school Superintendent stopped him and asked, "Johnny, tell us what you want to be."

The young man stopped, squared his shoulders and said, "I am going to be the greatest baseball catcher that ever lived!" And you could hear the laughs and snickers across this crowd.

But history and the record books and the Baseball Hall-of-Fame tell the story and confirm that sure enough, Johnny Bench, went on to become the best baseball catcher.

According to Casey Stengel, "Johnny Bench became the greatest baseball catcher who ever played the game!"

So...my young friends, WHAT IS YOUR GOAL IN LIFE? Real leaders and real winners are very ordinary people with extraordinary determination!

"Cast your bread upon the waters, for after many days you will find it again" (Ecclesiastes 11:1).
