March 26 - The Power Of Forgiveness

The Power Of Forgiveness

Leonardo da Vinci had been commissioned to paint his depiction of "The Lord's Supper." However just before he began he had a violent, bitter quarrel with a fellow artist. Leonardo became so incensed he decided to use the face of his enemy as the model for the face of Judas. He would take revenge by holding up his enemy to scorn.

The face of Judas was the first face completed and everyone easily recognized the face of the other artist with whom he had quarreled. However, when he began painting the face of Jesus...Leonardo couldn't get it right. Everything he tried didn't seem right to him. Something was holding him back frustrating his efforts. Finally he concluded that the problem was because he had painted his enemy as Judas.

When he had painted over the face of his enemy...he tackled the face of Jesus Christ and this time his success has been acclaimed even down to our day.

You cannot be painting the features of Jesus Christ into your own life and at the same be painting another person with anger, enmity, hatred and revenge! If you are holding bitterness against another, if you want revenge to be yours, if you are filled with hate...there is really only one real answer: FORGIVENESS!

Your future and your happiness depends on this thing called "forgiveness." Yes, I know, it's costly! You are slicing away the joy of revenge and letting the person who has offended you go free without any penalties. Yes...but it's the only way to deal with a hurtful past. And remember: WHEN YOU FORGIVE...YOU ALSO WILL BE FORGIVEN!

"For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive you your sins" (Matthew 6:14-15).
