Can You Be Funny For A Reason?

Little did this 14-year-old know when he accepted a dare from a friend to provide some entertainment during some kind of a technical glitch at the theater that he would become a full time stand-up comedian. He has been on the same stage with such comedic stars as Jerry Seinfeld, George Wallace, Jay Leno and Chris Rock.

As a young teen and long before he became famous or a Christian, he had made a pact with a friend that the two of them refused to curse or swear because it "wasn't an intelligent way to communicate." If they did...each would be able to hit the other in the stomach, really hard. Capital punishment enforced this pact.

Back to the theater...he responded to the dare and made his way to the front. There were 400 unhappy people and on his way, he had to clean up the only joke he could remember. However when he told the joke "everybody laughed. Seeing their reaction gave me this ultimate high...not that I've done drugs before."

In retrospect, Michael Jr. says, "I could clearly see that this was God saying, 'This is what I have for you to do,' even before I came to Christ."

Before he made his stand-up debut at 14 in that movie theater, this comedian says he's always had a strange ability to take the mundane and ordinary, flip it upside-down and wrong-side out, and etch out life truths.

He also knows the importance of keeping God's Word at the forefront of his life. Michael Jr. has discovered he still needs his friend with whom he made the pact  - not to curse when young - along with having a spiritual mentor at his home church in California.

How about you? Do you have a mentor with whom you can make a life pact?
