THE MOST INSPIRING PERSON OF THE YEAR!
Zach Bonner is a 12-year-old living in Florida who has just been voted "The Most Inspiring Person of the Year" by the readers and editors at the website Beliefnet.com!
This is an annual competition that included such notables as Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger who is the hero pilot who landed his plane safely on the Hudson River and students in Iran who risked their lives in a demonstration against a fraudulent election.
According to Laurie Sue Brockway, editor for the site, "Zach has been doing humanitarian work since he was six years old, giving out water from his little red wagon after a hurricane. I was a puddle of tears looking at photos of his efforts, like walking across the country to bring attention to causes."
Zach took time from his latest efforts to say, "It was awesome even to be in the running. Then to win was really exciting!"
You can follow his causes on his website, LittleRedWagonFoundation.com. There you will discover the simple ideas he shares that will help anyone of any age on how to become a philanthropist. Zach got his start following Hurricane Charley in 2004 when he saw how many people needed food, water and supplies. "It was just something I felt I could do," he says. "When you are in preschool or kindergarten, they are teaching you to share and give to others. And I had a really good time doing it, so I wanted to continue." (Source: USA TODAY, 12/16/09)
Wow! Zach said it all. If Zach can be a volunteer to help others, none of us are too young or too old to do the same. Zach has discovered the joy of giving! Now...it's your turn!
"Give and it shall be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap!" (Luke 6:38)
