Study # 12 Going on Unto Perfection
Aim: To show that we must progress after salvation, and that there are definite goals, for which we must strive in our Christian Walk.
Hebrews 6:1-3 The Doctrine Jesus taught is that of “going on unto perfection”.
We must keep those four words in mind, then we will not become confused by other ideas.
‘Going on’ implies progressive growth. Not instant attainment!
John 19:30 ‘It is finished’, in the Greek ‘teleitos’= to finish, mature, or complete.
Jesus completed His works and life, as we are called to finish ours,
faithfully, to the very end, no matter what happens.
Hebrews 12:1 Jesus is the ‘finisher’ (teleitos) of our faith. So we do not have to strive
on our own, but commit ourselves into His hands, and He will do the
work as long as we let Him.
John 17:22-23 Jesus reveals in His prayer for us, that this perfection is accomplished
by His coming into our Hearts and lives.
Unity is the sign of Maturity and the crowning glory of a Christian.
“In essentials, Unity; in non-essentials, Liberty; in all things Charity”.
John 15:5 Thus when He abides in us, we become Fruitful, which is the outcome
of true maturity. To this end we were saved, to be productive for God.
Eph. 4:11-15 No more Children, (vs.14)
Ministries of vs.11 were given to the Church to ‘perfect’(read mature)
the Saints, so they, (i.e. you), will start doing ministry work, to build
up the Church, Christ’s Body. We need mature productive leaders to
grow the Church.
3 Kinds of Fruit Need to Ripen In Us.
Heb. 13:15 The fruit of our Lips. Clean language for God.
Gal. 5:22 The fruit of our Lives. Good lifestyle for God.
Rom. 12:6-8 The fruit of Ministry. Use our Giftings for God.
1 Corinthians 15:52. Lastly there is another more glorious and final perfection envisaged when we shall have been made perfect in every way and stand in His Presence for evermore! Final Perfection.
