First Principles - Study 3

Study #3. Faith Towards God.

Hebrews 11:1.                          “Now Faith is the substance of things hoped for…”

It is not indefinite, not a ‘warm fuzzy feeling’, but it

is very real. It can be defined, and understood.

You are hoping for a thing, salvation, Healing etc., but that is

not substance until you have knowledge of what God has promised.

“The Definition of Faith.”

Hebrews 11:6.                          Here is the definition of Faith.

You have to know and believe two things to have faith.

                        a) God is Able to do this.

                        b) God is Willing to do this.

Without either of these ‘legs’ you cannot have any real substance for your

                                                wishes or hopes.

Faith then is Directed Believing. It becomes real when there is knowledge

based on what God has promised in His word, the Bible.

Story: I hear that you have just inherited $1million. I ask you for $50K. Fat hope!

I hear you told Pastor you HAD and WANT to give me $50K. I approach with faith.

Eph. 2: 8. We are saved THROUGH faith, not BY it.

Faith …Towards God !

John 3:16.                                Christ is the Savior, not Faith.

Only as we channel our faith to Christ do we find help.

John 12:44.                              Faith in Christ is Faith towards God.

EMBRACES  ALL  THAT  JESUS  DID  AND  WAS.

  • Isa.53 – His Death
  • Heb. 9:12 – His Blood.
  • Rom. 10:9 – His Resurrection.
  • 1 Jhn. 3:2 – 3. – His Second Coming.
  • 1 Jhn. 1:9 – His High Priestly Office for us.
  • Thus far we see that REPENTANCE FROM DEAD WORKS + FAITH TOWARDS GOD = SALVATION

    Think About this!

“Grace is God’s acceptance of us, but ….

Faith is our acceptance of “God’s acceptance of us”! –  quoted from Thomas Rohm.
