Recently, I was awakened out of sleep, and as I sat up in bed I became aware of God telling me, "I am with you always." I recognized it as an encouragement from the Lord, for I had been going through a severe test. Somewhat discouraged, and not sensing an answer to my prayers, I had foolishly questioned whether God was fully aware of my situation.
When I was 10 years old my parents came to know the Savior. On seeing the change that took place in their lives, I also gave my heart to Jesus. As young as I was, I soon learned the Lord was with me everywhere I went. This encouraged me to trust Him early in life, and became a safeguard, keeping me from falling into sin. I knew He was watching.
During my teen years I continued to be aware of His presence. Later, when I went to college He went with me. When I fell in love and married Stella, we both knew Christ was part of our family. As time passed on into our thirties, forties, fifties and to our seventies, through all those years He proved to be with us; -- never left us! Now, in our 80's, not as spry and able as we used to be, but imagine, -- He took time to awaken me at 2 AM to tell me, "I am with you always." What a God!
There are many who feel lonely, forgotten, and troubled.
Pressures of sickness, temptation and confusion, as well as a multitude of other harsh realities may lead us to wonder, "Where is God?" But the Lord promised, "I will never leave you nor forsake you" (Heb. 13:5). "I am with you always." (Mat. 28:20). He assured, that the Holy Spirit would not only be with us, but "shall be in you" (Jn.14:17). The Apostle Paul reminds us of the great truth: "Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Holy Spirit dwelleth in you?" (1 Cor. 3:16). Imagine, -- God within us!
He is with us at all times. The Bible is filled with dramatic testimonies of the ever abiding presence of God with His people. David was so confident of the Lord's presence that he exclaimed, "Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for Thou art with me." (Ps. 23:4). He was fully aware he was never alone. "I can never escape from Your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence!" (Ps.139:7-12, NLT). No matter where we are, God is there.
Solomon declared, "The eyes of the Lord are in every place beholding the evil and the good" (Prov. 15:3). He is present and fully aware of our deeds both good and bad. I wonder, how many times have we embarrassed Him with our behavior, because we forgot He was there all the time, watching, listening? (John 2:25). God asks, "Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him...Do not I fill heaven and earth?" (Jer.23:24).God is always with you
The three young Hebrew exiles in Babylon probably thought it was the end when they were thrown into the blazing furnace to be reduced to cinders. But God was with them. During Israel's forty years of wandering in the wilderness, it was not without an awareness of God being with them. John was alone and harshly imprisoned on the Isle of Patmos, -- but not really alone, for Jesus appeared to him there. Under sentence of death, Peter may have felt abandoned. But not so, for the Lord sent His angel to deliver him. There are many more such illustrations in the Bible of God's presence with His people.
Don't Forget About God
Remembering God is with us will bring confidence and courage in the midst of dismal circumstances.
Knowing He is by our side shall dissolve fears and raise our faith and love for God to a higher degree than ever.
Some may complain, "The Lord has deserted us, the Lord has forgotten us." But His response is, "Never! Can a mother forget her nursing child? Can she feel no love for a child she has at home? But even if that were possible, I would not forget you! See, I have written your name on my hand" (Isa.:15,16, NLT).
We may not know what the year shall bring, be we can be sure He is with us --"always" "The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms" (Deut. 33:27). Trust Him. He's at your side.
